Paraeducator Certificate
Two Options for Paraeducator Class (which one is the right fit for you?)
1. Paraeducator daytime class
This 10-12 week online class will help prepare you for the Paraeducator Certification Exam. The exam is needed if you do not have a two or four-year degree and would like to work in a school setting with Kindergarten to 12th grade students. The certification exam is an online multiple choice exam covering Reading, Writing and Math skills, including how to apply those skills in a classroom or school setting.
You will cover topics on learning styles, communication with staff, parents and students. Parent and student rights within the school setting and gain a better understanding of racial equity in the classroom. You will study techniques to help support and encourage good behavior in school. Additionally, you will have an opportunity to job shadow a current Educational Assistant or Teacher Assistant with St. Paul Public Schools. You will be able to see what the job is like and how EA or TA interacts with students, school staff or parents.
Requirements:
- TABE 11/12 M Reading score 468+
- TABE 11/12 M Math score 449+
- High School Diploma or GED
- Able to pass a background check to work with children
- Legal Permanent Resident or US Citizen
- Provide copy of Social Security Card
- Provide a copy of ID with contact information
- Sign additional release documents
2. ParaeducatorTest Prep class
This 6-8 week online course is designed to support current educators to pass the Paraeducator exam on math, writing and reading knowledge and instruction. The course meets two days a week through Google Meet. Students will be signed into Master Teacher account for Paraeducator and will work with licensed ABE teachers to build their academic skills.
Requirements:
- TABE 11/12 M Reading
- TABE 11/12 M Math
- High School Diploma or GED
- Able to pass a background check to work with children
What Happens After the Class?
Upon successful completion of the class and certification exam, you will be eligible to interview for open Education Assistant or Teacher Assistant positions with St. Paul Public Schools-District 625 and other local school districts. Gain valuable experience working as a TA or EA and decide to become a K-12 Teacher in the future
