Youth Intervention Services

Talk to the staff at your child's school if your child is struggling in school, refusing to go to school, or their behavior has changed significantly. You do not have to wait until the teacher calls you or for school conferences to talk to your child’s teachers. Schools will provide interpreters if you ask.

  • Ask your child's teachers if they have noticed the same behavior changes and how things are going for them in school.
  • Ask the school counselor or social worker about programs or resources to help before the issue becomes a serious problem.
  • If the behavior lasts for a long time and affects your child’s daily functioning (appetite, sleep, interaction with friends and family) then contact your child's doctor.

If these things do not work, check out the Ramsey County Youth Engagement Program

  • This program prevents kids from running away or becoming truant (missing too much school and involved in the court system).
  • They will first do an assessment to see if your child qualifies for their services.
  • You can call for an assessment at 651-266-5308.
